A gilt bronze circular lid for the big seal of Emperor Charles VI Habsburg ( 1685 - 1740 ) , father of Empress Maria Theresa.
It shows the double headed eagle of the Holy Roman Empire surmounted with a closed crown with in the centre the initials C.V.I.
The double border with waves.
These lids were used to protect the imperial seal for treaties or other official documents.
