Ecritoire japonais laqué (suzuri bako) 19ème siècle

The lid is decorated with peony on a black lacquered ground (ro-iro) and speckled with gold powder (nashiji). The interior depicts the three friends of winter, pine, plum and bamboo in gold lacquer hira and taka maki-e on a dense base of nashiji. The whole is of very good quality. The mizu-ire is in silver metal and the ink stone shows some erasures from use. Period: early Meiji (1868-1912) 19th century.
