18th Furniture, country french furniture
Louis XIV style "de maîtrise" chest of drawers curved in front, opening by three drawers on three rows, in veneer wood and marquetry.
Rare small model with perfect proportions and exactly the same construction as a 1:1 scale chest of drawers (dovetails - intermediate floors ...), which suggests that this is a true small master piece of furniture.
The variety of woods used is remarkable: walnut for the sides, walnut burl for the reserves, rosewood for the framing strips underlined with holly filets, Macassar ebony for the wide frames of the drawers and top, all in sawn veneer on a spruce frame. The cabinet maker played the Coromandel figures to their best advantage and highlighted the holly songbird perched in the center of the top in a walnut burl reserve.
The trimmings are made to measure and are of the finest quality, be it the cut and finely chiselled brass locksets or the three similar steel locks with their keys.
Condition: chest of drawers in superb original condition (just three small old veneer grafts on the whole furniture), simple resumption of the old varnish stamped by our cabinetmaker.
Work of mastery of a Rhenish cabinetmaker of the 18th century.
