Small oblong dish with rare decoration representing the assassination of Sir George Brander. He worked in Canton for the East India Company during the second half of the 18th century, when he retired and returned to Europe. He sent his nephew Thomas who behaved disastrously and returned to England in 1782. There he was compromised in a gambling debt affair and as his uncle and benefactor refused to help him he stabbed him in an argument. This affair had a very big impact in England.
