Galland started the painting very young, he first learned from Labrouste, the architect, and then the French painter Michel-Martin Drolling. He received a lot of prestigious order, among whicha project for the église Saint-Eustache, Finance Ministry in Saint-Cloud, the Panthéon and many luxurious hotels particuliers as for Prince Narischkine in Saint-Petersburg and M. Van der Bilt in New York. At the end of his life, he worked on the Hotel de Ville de Paris’ decorations, completed in 1891. The four friezes we present here were part of this project. Gifted with a fertile imagination, brilliant creator, mixing the souvenir of Fontainebleau’s decorators, great VenetiansandBoucher, Galland mix the figured with painted architecture, creating decors meeting luxury expectations of his clientele.
