This magnificent oil painting on mahogany wood was made by the famous animal painter Eugène Verboeckhoven.
Signed and dated left below 1847.
With a wax seal on the back.
This painting is in exquisite condition and can be regarded amongst the very best he ever executed.
Still housed in his original frame measuring 68 on 83 cm.
Eugene Verboeckhoven was born in Warneton in the West Flanders in 1798 and died in Schaerbeek in 1881.
He collaborated with multiple artists during his career.
Painters such as De Noter, Koekkoek, Tschaggeny and many others. He was an excellent painter of animals and continued working in the tradition of the 17 century old masters. He also had a great talent for drawing. Verboeckhoven was a freemason, he joined the Brussels lodge in 1834.
