Plate in Nevers (France) earthenware "Les Droits de l'Homme", 18th century

Plate in Nevers earthenware with revolutionary polychrome decoration in the center in an oval reserve two hands joined, a sword and a cap of freedom with a blue glow from the hands, an open book with the inscription "Droits de l'Homm" is underneath. Two palms tied by a blue ribbon and a garland of stylized flowers surround the reserve.
Circa 1789-1790. 18th century. Diameter: 22.8 cm.
This decor is inspired by a vignette used as a letterhead for administrative papers. It commemorates the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, a text adopted on August 26, 1789 and which became the preamble to the 1791 Constitution.
