A rare covered box in the shape of a ruyi in gold, decorated with gold filigrees and inlays of hard stones, pearls and kingfisher feathers, the symbol of longevity Shou in coral surmounting the cover, Qianlong mark engraved with base, Qing Dynasty (1644-1908).
This box is similar to similar boxes with gold watermarks on display at the Forbidden City in Beijing. They have been dated by the curators of the Beijing Museum of the Qing Dynasty, although presumably executed during the reign of Qianlong.
For a very similar ruyi box but in gilded silver, coral, pearls and hard stones, see Christie's London, November 8, 2016, Lot 141
