Monumental bowl decorated with wader birds

Provenance: formerly in an English collection

Here the potter has succeeded in catching the movement of the animal in a really graphic fashion. The four stylised birds are treated in a very lively manner.

A closely related example is kept in the collection of the Louvre Museum (MAO 860) and published in: Exhibition Catalogue, L’étrange et le merveilleux en terre d’Islam, Paris: Editions de la Réunion des Musées Nationaux, 2001, p. 74, Ill. 48.
