18th-century and Empire French furniture, works of art and pictures
A very rare and beautiful Empire engraved silver gilt figural ewer and round basin. The ewer on pedestal edged with pearls, the body decorated with stylized palmettes, applied with swans and winding, centered with a star with a rosette, the nymph handle carrying a bouquet, the edge of the spout decorated with ovals, engraved with the initial "M" surmounted by a princely crown and a crest, the circular basin on a pedestal, edged with ovals, chiseled with vines.
Engraved with the coats of arms of Princess Mary, Duchess of Gloucester and Edinburgh (1776-1857), fourth daughter of King George III. She married in 1816 her cousin, Prince William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh,
