Torso of Venus

The goddess is depicted naked, tilted forward, probably about to untie her sandal. It is an iconography which has its origin in the Greek statuary of the 4th century BC, and which is taken up by the Roman sculptors who treated it extensively throughout the 1st century AD. If they were to be votive representations for the Greeks, this type of sculpture was more likely used as decoration in Roman villa
