Offered by Jan Muller
This detailed oil on panel painting depicts a Dutch ship or fregat, in front of a rocky coast with a castle.
He was the son of the founder of marine painting, Hendrick Cornelisz. Vroom. In his younger years, he painted sea battles, just like his father.
Later he paints more seascapes and landscapes, and is seen as a forerunner of Jacob van Ruisdael.
Vroom receives many commissions from Constantijn Huygens for the court and he often collaborates with Jacob van Campen.
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has two works of Vroom, the Mauritshuis has one on show.
Our picture was in the collection: G. Van de - International Art Brink, Amsterdam.
