Beautiful Art Deco sculpture in white Carrara marble representing the goddess Diana accompanied by a doe. The sculpture is signed by Charles-Eugène Breton.
Charles-Eugène Breton (Tours 1878 - 1968) is a painter and sculptor who studied under the talented sculptors Denys Puech, Louis-Ernest Barrias and Raoul Verlet.
Breton exhibited from the beginning of the 20th century at the Salon des Artistes Français. He won several medals, including one at the 1904 Salon. From 1929 he exhibited at the Salon des indépendants des peintures et des sculptures.
Thanks to his longevity, Breton is an artist who crossed several styles, from neo-classical to romantic to art deco. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français until 1939.
The present sculpture is a fine example of a purely Art Deco sculpture dating from the beginning of the 20th century, approximately 1910.
