Two pipe smokers trying to light their respectively by putting the two tips together. Very funny scene. The massive and monobloc sculpture is of great finesse. The details, faces, kimonos, bundle of rice and positions of the characters are surprisingly precise. The Tokyo school is a benchmark for the quality of carved ivories. The signature in a cartridge under the base is erased. Meiji (1868-1912). Height 18cm
