Drop-leaf secretary by Gabriel Viardot in the Asian style very characteristic of the furniture of this cabinetmaker, we see, on the facade, offset shelves, two doors with mother-of-pearl inlays representing Japanese fans (uchiwa) of two kinds and floral sculptures in relief. A large drawer under the flap features the mother-of-pearl decorations as well as sculpted flowers.
The flap, once unfolded, allows the transformation of the cabinet into a secretary. A red velvet covers this flap. Two small drawers and a large one are revealed by the flap. Gilded bronzes adorn the piece of furniture which ends with clawed feet. The Gabriel Viardot hot iron mark is on the inside of a foot.
