Decorative art from 18th to 20th century
A large patinated bronze medallion in an ormolu frame representing two putti disguised as farmers working in the fields in a bucolic setting. The child in the foreground is squeezing a bundle of wheat with a rope. While the second one wears a hat with a ribbon on it, he is holding flowers with a billhook in one hand and a pitchfork with a bitter apple, which was used as a flask at the time, tighten to it. This rural idealized image along with the typical couple of turtledoves in the background was a motif particularly appreciated by Marie-Antoinette.
Louis XVI style, 19th century.
