Originally in Japanese temples, everyday objects (trays, jugs, spoons ...) were made of wood and lacquered according to the principle of negoro lacquers. It involved superimposing several layers of black lacquer covered by a layer of coral-colored lacquer. With use, the coral layer faded in different places and could lend itself to contemplation or even meditation. Objects dating from these origins are obviously the most sought after.
