Large Virgin and Child in fruit wood, carved in a half-round shape.
The Virgin is represented standing, holding the Child on her left arm, and stroking her leg with her right hand. Beautiful treatment of the face, underlined by a short veil that falls on a dress and a coat sculpted with pleats.
The Child holds a bird in his left hand, coiled on his back in his palm.
Great gentleness in the attitude of the Virgin and in the naturalistic gaze of the Child.
Fruit wood, probably walnut. Work from the southwest of France, from the Bordeaux workshops. 14th c.
erosion, xylophagous, filling at the back with a hardened wax, but nice presence. (1.32m high)
