Oak wood
Bench covered with a rare pink Hungarian stitch

This small bench seat is curiously formed of five legs turned in the form of a smooth column, two by sides and a fifth rests on the longitudinal strut.
The bottom of the seat is solidly constituted by a board carried by the belt crosspieces, on which the upholstery rests.
It is adorned with a rare tapestry of Hungary, predominantly pink, in wool and silk, these two materials creating a striking relief effect.

Heiresses of the medieval benches whose ‘etiquette’ regulated their use, they lost their armrests and their high backs, but acquired the privilege of being stuffed.
The word bench comes from banque, also used in the sixteenth and seventeenth century to designate a seat that was used with tables, or banquet which was a bench that was placed along a wall in the antechambers, hallways but also the bedrooms.
