Landscape with figures and ruins - David II Teniers (vers 1675-1690)

This soft landscape with ruins is quite typical for Tenier's later work (around 1675-1690). During this period, he was financially independent and more inspired by landscapes (on smaller and bigger scales) than interiors. Teniers was the owner of a castle ("Dry Torens" in Perk) near Brussels and it is known he found his inspiration in the surrounding landscape. Also the stylistic influence of Adriaen Brouwer (his main inspiration during his begining period) is clear.
