Rare Piedmontese mirror measuring 180 cm 100 cm in gilded and carved wood with original mercury glass.
All the "rocaille" grace and lightness are revealed in this beautiful mirror made of carved, painted and gilded wood typical of the mid-18th century; the thin outline, slightly wavy and outlined in gold, culminates in a richly decorated coping from which flowery branches descend on the sides.
The figurative and decorative repertoire grafted the Piedmontese tradition still of the seventeenth-century taste of the bombastic carving, with a marked naturalistic tone, on the imaginative suggestions of French ornamentists such as Jean Berain. The scenographic molding created with reckless openwork and full-bodied interweaving of acanthus leaves still seems baroque. An irreplaceable detail of eighteenth-century and modern furnishings, the mirror can be placed above a console or a fireplace or occupy, if large, the entire wall or part of it.
