The seat of jerusalem by the crosses, first crusade, july 15, 1099

This important historical picture represents the Crusader army giving the last assault before the capture of the fortified city then defended by the Fatimids who had just taken it back from the Seljuk Turks.

Leaving from the shores of the Mediterranean in 1095, the Crusaders (the First Crusade was initiated by Pope Urban II with the aim of liberating Jerusalem), took Antioch on June 3, 1098, then, remaining there, seized at the cost of ferocious battles of the Holy City sheltering the Holy Sepulcher.
The Siege began on June 7, 1099 and ended on July 15.
