Exceptional bust of a Dogue de Bordeaux - "Chien de Garde"
Signed and dated "Jean-Barnabé Amy - 1876"
A model of a mask of this dog is stored at the Museum of Fine Arts at Marseille. (see last picture) All these masks were exposed at the Salon of French Artists in 1899.
Jean-Barnabé Amy was born in Tarascon in 1839 and died in Paris in 1907.
He won several prices and exposed in the French Salon of 1868 and 1876.
Most of his sculptures are preserved in the museums of Avignon, Montpellier, Arles and Marseille.
