The bust is mounted on a round base of yellow marble (Giallo di Siena).
The foundry of Naples with the three flowers in the lower right corner.
A signature is on the left shoulder of the object. of the foundry.
The object is in a perfect state of conservation.
The god Dionysus is the god of wine of the joy of grapes and of the fertility of madness and ecstasy. It's called a "worry breaker"
The identity of the representation is not clear to date. Archaeologists attribute it to the mythological figures of Dionysus or the philosopher Plato.
The Swiss archaeologist Karl Weber discovered this representation around 1750 during his excavations at the Villa dei Papiri, near Herculaneum in the Gulf of Naples.
This manufactory had permission from the National Museum of Naples to make replicas after excavations in the Herlucaneum
