A boxwood sculpture of ‘Ecce Homo’ which translates as ‘behold the man’, the words spoken by Pontius Pilate when presenting the scourged Jesus Christ, bound and crowned with thorns, shortly before his crucifixion. Christ is depicted seated upon a mound of earth whilst praying & looking to heaven.

German, mid 17th century.
