Auguste Garneray (1785-1824).
A royal scene in a neogothic interior.
Pen and brown ink on black pencil line, brown and grey wash, watercolour on paper.
Signed lower right.
Darker areas.
This troubadour scene made around 1810-1820 shows under a neo-gothic arch a king on his throne in the centre background, surrounded by his retinue, in the foreground to the left of the knights in armour, to the right a couple discreetly looking at the scene.
In a beautiful gilt wood frame decorated with Louis XVI style flowers garlands.
H. 14.2 x W. 10.4 cm (at sight). Frame : H. 28.5 x W. 21 cm.
