Pair of large sconces with two arms of light French Régence period

Pair of large Wall lamps with two asymmetrical arms of light in very finely chased and gilded bronze.

They present a very beautiful ornamentation, of baroque type, with motifs of gadroons, scrolls, acanthus leaves and flowers.

This model can be compared to the drawings of André-Charles Boulle published, before 1707, by Pierre-Jean Mariette in the Nouveaux desseins de meubles et ouvrages de bronze et de marqueterie inventés et gravés par André-Charles Boulle (Planche VIII).

A pair of identical sconces can be seen in the second anteroom of the Marquise de Pompadour's apartment in Versailles (see l'Estampille - l'Objet d'Art N° 367, May 2002, p. 52)
