pair of sconces louis XV period

Pair of sconces with two sconces in chiseled and gilded bronze.
The arms are carved with ragged leaves.
Around 1740

These sconces are part of what the historian Fiske Kimball called "the picturesque genre, a very short period before a symmetrization of forms." If the soul loves symmetry, it also loves contrast "as Montesquieu wrote in his praise. This rococo art, so brief, is that of contrast, surprise, asymmetry is king.
Like J.A Meissonnier or Nicolas Pineau, the author of this pair of wall lights has given them a balance in their decorative sinuosity.
