Syrian armchair - XIXth century

This dark wooden armchair is typical of Syrian furniture art. The very elongated seat resembles a meridian. The belt is openwork and mother-of-pearl inlays on the legs form a square. The long seat is covered with a velvet cushion with vegetal and interlacing motifs, which are typical of oriental art. The armrests are solid and also elongated. Their sides are cleverly carved in an openwork manner, as is the belt, thus creating a stylistic reminder. The tops of the armrests also have mother-of-pearl inlays forming geometric patterns. The backrest is very richly worked.
