This very beautiful walnut sculpture represents Christ on the cross. His slightly asymmetrical arms are raised, palms facing the faithful. Its athletic and muscular body presents solid forms treated according to the conventions of the first Renaissance. However, due to its typology (Christ of Calvary or beam of glory) and the characteristic features of his face, our work is fully in keeping with the late Gothic tradition.
This particular model and the short and restless perizonium that wraps around the right thigh of our Christ, indicate that it would have been made between Picardy and Flanders in the course of the 16th century.
