Large oil on canvas signed lower right "Serres Alexandre 1878" decorated with its original frame.

Probably exhibited at the salon of 1878 or 1879 (old label).

Alexandre Serres (or Serre) 1850 - 1921.
History painter, mythological compositions, portrait genre scenes.
He was a pupil of Jules Garipuy at the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse.
He exhibited at the Paris salon, then at the Salon des Artistes Français, from 1878.
The Toulouse museum keeps one of his works: "Orphée et Eurydice".
