Pieter Brueghel II (Brussels 1564-1638 Antwerp)

This beautiful and well preserved painting on panel is by the hand of Pieter Brueghel the Younger. It represents a drunkard being led home by his wife.
Dr. Luuk Pijl examined the painting in 2019.
He writes that this panel is a welcome new addition to the work of this painter. We know the subject by two other versions, one of them in the Montreal Museum of Arts. He writes that our painting is conceived as a roundel, the beveling around the edge of the reverse is executed by a chisel and is common for early 17th century wooden supports.
Possibly the invention of the composition was done by his famous father Pieter Brueghel the Elder, so possible painted after a lost prototype by P.B.I
