Workshop of G. Campagna - Juno in bronze, Venice, End of the 16th century

This beautiful bronze represents the Roman goddess Juno, wife of Jupiter. She stands naked in a classic contrapposto position accompanied by her attribute, the Peacock. In greek mythology, the plumage of the latter was adorned at the request of the goddess of the hundred eyes of the giant Argus to whom she had assigned the task of watching Io, unhappy lover of Jupiter.
This elegant bronze with serpentine composition is inspired by a famous model made by the Veronese Girolamo Campagna, active in Venice in the last quarter of the 16th century.
