This beautiful French centerpiece presents a circular covered with a mirror, surrounded by a rich frieze with vases of flowers and fruit, foliated rinceau and angels that hold baskets of flowers, made of finely chiselled and gilded bronze. The peculiarity of this precious frame is that it has an external and an internal finish. Externally the angels are represented by shoulders, while from the inside we see them frontally holding the basket of flowers. The openwork frieze rests on a gilded bronze band, that are chiselled with geometric patterns (meander). The elegant centerpiece have four paw feet with carved decorations and shells. Very beautiful chasing and detailed craftsmanship.
These elaborate items came into fashion in France in the second half of the 18th Century, when fine dining was at its high-point, is designed to be placed in the center of a formal dining table. Its body is mirrored, creating a beautiful reflective surface which will catch the light produced by candelabra and candlesticks placed on top of it or chandeliers suspended above.
