Collection of six trompe l’oeil plates
Diameter between 23 and 25 cm
Round, rounded edges with painted decoration of fine flowers, tulips and forget-me-nots, they are filled in the center in trompe-l'oeil fruits.
These very realistic plates are a remarkable example of the surprises that could be found on certain tables in high social circles.
The superb jattes in the shape of olives, pears, almonds, apricots, apples and figs were aimed to please, distract and surprise the guests.
Many earthenware factories, including Moustier, Sceaux, Faenza, Alcora produced those dishes and bowls and they are today exposed in different museums (museum of tableware in Garonne, Musée des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg, Sèvres city of ceramics, Museum of Creil).
