Madonna and Child in carved wood and polychrome circa 1510/1530

Magnificent Madonna and Child polychrome and carved in lime tree in slightly hips posture, early 16th century.
Marie is wearing a long red dress hidden under a large blue coat with large deep pleats.
She wears a light white veil from which long strands of wavy hair escape.
Her face, full of sweetness towards the child, reveals pretty almond-shaped eyes. The small mouth sketches a delicate smile.
The Virgin tenderly wraps her child in her left arm, while her right hand caresses the toddler's two feet.
The baby Jesus offers a rounded face, with youthful charm, slightly leaning towards his mother in a cuddly attitude. He is holding a bird in his hands with which he seems to be having fun.
The delicate and sensitive softness of this sculpture offers us here the testimony of a work of a great plastic quality resulting from the sculpture of the end of the German middle ages.
