Gillis Mostaert, born in Hulst, Netherlands, June 27, 1528 and died in Antwerp on December 28, 15981, is a contemporary Flemish painter of Pieter Brueghel the Elder. A versatile artist, he excels in landscape painting as well as in genre and history. He collaborated regularly with the main artists of Antwerp. He is particularly known for his winter landscapes, his fire scenes and his representations of market and fair. His works are among the most sought after of his time.
