Suite of four Louis XV armchairs stamped Nogaret In Lyon

Exceptional suite of four large armchairs with flat files "à la Reine", in molded and carved walnut stamped Pierre Nogaret (1718 - 1771) Carpenter in seats. Master in 1745 in Lyon.
The sinuous-shaped files are adorned with foliage and bouquets of flowers.
The feet are elegantly arched. The armrests are sculpted in curves and counter-curves.
We will also notice the freshness of the colors and the charming illustrations of their tapestries posed in the last century (allegorical or country scenes depicting characters, trees, fruits and animals such as lions, birds, dogs, butterflies ...)
The rigorous sense of proportions, the balance of forms, the quality of the sculptures, the depth of the moldings, the famous `` whiplash '' of the consoles clearly underline the realization of these four seats by Pierre Nogaret.
To complete this authenticity, three armchairs have the stamp "NOGARET A LYON" with this particularity of the leg of the 'Y' which folds down to the left. The location of the stamp is on the rear crossmember of the belt as it was rigorously used on the flat-back seats of this famous carpenter Lyonnais.

Stamped Nogaret A Lyon
18th century

Pierre Nogaret is the best known of the provincial craftsmen, with the cabinetmakers Hache de Grenoble.
This famous carpenter from Lyon gives priority to the line over the decor; Curves and counter-curves give an alert rhythm like no other. These tormented lines mainly enliven the seats with this casualness which is the mark of great talent.
The armrests ''en coup de fouet'', the robust legs with an accentuated curve, the energetic moldings, the floral decoration sculpted with vigor, without overload, well integrated into the structures, characterize these seats which are also distinguished by a wide seat and comfortable.

Born in Paris, Pierre Nogaret would have completed his apprenticeship before coming to settle in Lyon in 1743.
Was he influenced by the works of the two great initiators, Tilliard and Cresson? This would explain the presence in Nogaret's production of a rigorous sense of proportions and the balance of forms, as of a rather exceptional quality of sculpture.
