The netsuke of Iwami province are in great demand. This example by Kanman (1793-1859) is carved in the lip of the horn. The god Fukurukuju sits on his raised knees. He holds a large fan whose horn is perfectly suited to represent the elongated bald head and the variegated color of Fukurukuju.
Period: Edo early 19th century.
Signed under the base: Kanman with a Kao.
Provenance: Robert S. Huthart collection. Collection of Iwami Netsuke.
