Rare Piedmontese mirror with measures of 180 cm 100 cm in gilded wood and carved with original mercury glasses.
All the grace and lightness of "rocaille" are revealed in this beautiful mirror made of carved wood, painted and gilded typical of the mid-18th century; the thin contour, just wavy and outlined in gold culminates in a richly decorated cymatium from which they descend to the sides of the flowering branches. the figurative and decorative repertoire engages the italian tradition still of the seventeenth-century taste of bombastic carving, with a marked naturalistic intonation, on the fanciful suggestions of French ornamentalists such as Jean Berain.
The scenographic cymatium created with daring tunnels and full-bodied intertwining acanthus leaves still seems Baroque in taste. An irreplaceable detail of eighteenth-century and modern furniture, the mirror can be placed above a console or above a fireplace or occupy, if of imposing size, the entire wall or part of it.
