Pupil of Léon Bonnat, prix de Rome de Peinture in 1906, Knight of the Legion of Honour, and member of the Institut de France, Georges Paul Leroux was one of the most important academic painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
He distinguishes himself in the representation of the luminous landscapes of southern France and Italy, where he stays many times. At the end of his career, he devoted himself to the realization of still-lifes, of which our painting is a fine and vivid example.
