A hinged bloodstone egg within gold pierced leafy scrolls inhabited by birds, the rim with enamel motto "Dieu vous benit", rose diamond pushpiece.
This type of egg was usually used as a prestigious case to house a piece of jewelry or a watch and, that would be presented as a gift for a special event. Occasionally these would contain other small items like toiletries or sewing kits. A similarly mounted hardstone egg with the same motto, is in the James A. de Rothschild Collection at Waddesdon Manor.
