Genre painting at the cobbler workshop, oil on canvas, Flanders, 17th c
A rather funny scene taking place at a cobbler's. The cobbler mends old shoes, while the shoemaker makes new or luxury shoes.
A poor hère comes to repair his shoe, and the gentleman on the right puts his hand on a cheese and points the index finger on his nose, barely hidden allusion to the smell of his bare foot.
Flemish school of the 1st half of the 17th century.
