Very decorative the tray is inlaid with tortoiseshell, mother of pearl, ivory. It represents the Sennin Tekkai near a banana tree carrying on its shoulder a minogame turtle and attached to its belt a double gourd. A kneeling child points to a branch of camellia and another holds in his arms a wrapped koto and also points to the branches of camellias, auspicious symbol that blooms as the Chinese New Year approaches, and chrysanthemums. The panel is on a basketwork of carved bone. The frame is in hira and taka maki-e lacquer on a gold fundame background with floral decoration.
All the characters have their clothes lacquered in gold and the faces, hands and feet in very finely chiseled ivory.
