Portrait of the comte des Armoises, Lorraine school circa 1725

A rare oil painting on canvas of a "Conversation piece" : the portrait of the comte des Armoises, chamberlain to Duke Leopold of Lorraine, sitting in his bedroom, in a red dressing gown surrounded by an officer, a servant bringing chocolate and his favorite dog in a wicker basket , all looking at the viewer.
An anonymous painting , School of Lorraine , circa 1725 – 1730 .
In a later Louis XV gilt wood frame.
The pair to this portrait , showing the comte des Armoises in the same bedroom but only with his servant bringing him coffee , is now at the Musée Historique Lorrain, Nancy.
For full details on this painting, see "Les peintres lorrains du XVIIIeme Siècle" by Gerard Voreaux, 1998 (pages 152 to 155).
