Japanese 6-panels screen painted in ink and polychromy on gold leaf. It describes life in kyoto and around the capital surrounded by the hills.The multitude of details, carriages of important characters guarded by samurai and going to Nijo castle surrounded by moats, craftsmen engaging in various activities, shopping street, temples, pagodas, a red Torii (portico) marks the entrance to a Shinto temple and many residences, including schools of samurai.
The surrounding hills are green and on the Kamo river which crosses Kyoto one can distinguish a boat helping people to cross and a fisherman on a raft.
Edo period : ca. 1680/1700
