The main features of a Louis XVI chest of drawers are a straight line, simpler, sober and geometric, inspired by Greek-Roman classicism; the composure of the geometric forms contrasts with the capricious, bizarre and complex volutes of the Rococo.
More simple and sober, but always refined in minute details, the Louis XVI Style is characteristic for the geometric rigor of the ornamentation and for the sharpness of the furniture volumes. This is a Louis XVI chest of drawers inlaid and threaded in walnut, rosewood, bois de rose and walnut interiors, measuring 135 x 95 x 50 cm from the second half of the 18th century with a linear structure and a refinement of the inlays that lead back to the workshop del Maggiolini.
In the lower drawer the separation is not highlighted, thus creating a large mirror with a dark and shiny walnut shine with the veneer arranged in a herringbone pattern. The decoration underlines the horizontality of the drawer. A frame similar to that of the two drawers but of smaller proportions, closes a decoration formed by phytomorphic motifs. The same frame is found on the sides where there are characters represented with a beautiful play of wood between walnut, rosewood and bois de rose that give color and warmth to the piece of furniture itself, while on the horizontal plane a still life theme with musical and floral instruments is made with great care and elegance.
The tapered legs have on the four sides a phytomorphic motif inserted in a frame that underlines the shape, the nut stands out dark and without decoration having, on the side, a fine decorative curl and executed only for the most important drawers. Looking at it in its essence, we see a very refined chest of drawers, warm in colors and perfectly combined in the construction of wood; to this we add the unique inlay, almost unrepeatable despite the large volume of luigi XVI dressers on the market that make it special and differentiate it from the mass precisely for these delicate and fine details that highlight its appearance and its elegance. The como, in perfect condition, comes from a private home.
