This important apothecary mortar, with a beautiful patina testifying to its use, was made in central Italy in 1738, according to the date on it. This one is made of very fine quality bronze, as its resonance proves.
Cylindrical in shape, the entire mortar is scattered by lines with a modern look that cover the object without altering its refined appearance and has two thin straight handles.
On the pass is a framed register with a Latin text in capital letters: "DONATI DE AQUILA FECERUNT + SUMPTIBIS DOMINI JOSEPHI FILETTI A-D MDCCXXXVIII." This sentence could be understood as follows: "Gift to the city of Aquila + At the Lord Joseph Filetti's expense in 1738". This interpretation then makes it possible to determine its place of production, certainly the city of Aquila in central Italy, also who is the patron, in this case Lord Joseph Filetti and finally in which year this mortar was produced, i. e. 1738.
