Nanteuil was a prolific draftsman who executed portraits, landscapes, figure studies and historical scenes. Our drawing represents a young girl seen in left profile, her head slightly resting on her right hand. It is preparatory to the head of the woman painted in the picture The Seduction shown in the Salon of 1859. This head was also reused by the artist in another drawing and lithograph, both entitled Profil de jeune femme dans une guirlande, formely in the Madelaine Aubrun collection.
