A beautiful architectural carving in white marble depicting a pretty young lady, her head covered by a volute either side and placed onto a background of foliage. Her wavy hair is accentuated by the drilling of holes (with a hand drill) , a technique already known to the Romans, to give sculptured hair more realism and volume. To the back there are two fixation holes and remains of residue whereby this carving was attached to the architectural surroundings for which it was originally destined.
France. 17th century.
